Fazlur Rehman announces restoration of MMA
ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced the restoration of the defunct Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) on Thursday.
Speaking during a press conference in Islamabad, Rehman said that the coalition of religious parties needs to be revived.
The JUI-F chief further said that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will be invited to the next meeting.
Speaking about the growing concerns of militancy in the country, Rehman said he had always opposed military solution to the problem.
Leaders of different religious and political parties have been trying to unite on a single platform for the last six months to electorally challenge incumbent parties.
MMA – an alliance of six religious groups – had swept the 2002 elections in two provinces.
The revived MMA will consist of JUI, Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Islami Tehreek and JUI-Samiul Haq faction.
