FORUM FOR AWARENESS OF NATIONAL SECURITY-TAMILNADU CHAPTER
KADAL MAINDHAN PAYANAM - SAGAR PUTRA YATRA
Chennai to Kochi--

Bharat has survived the alien aggression for many centuries and retained its culture intact. In the modern times, the world has been looking with awe at the vibrant dynamic democracy. While in other South Asian countries that became free at the same time as India, democracy had been lost or threatened many times in the past 70 years. If India retained its free status despite its being so large both in terms of area and population, it is because its soul is in its cultural heritage. However, there has been a degradation of Indigenous culture over the years. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study the issues at the grass root level and aim at evaluating the causes.

The alien invasion in the past few centuries has had its impact on the indigenous culture although it has not been able to destroy it. Nevertheless, alien religions have taken root in the country. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study and evaluate the effect of such conversions on the socio-economic state of the people in the region, particularly the area under study.

Covert and overt communal domination activities have gained ground in the recent times. The impact of these activities is being felt in a pronounced manner on issues related to governance and law and order. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study and evaluate such impact on the socio – economic – politico aspects of the people in the region, particularly the area under study.

The fishermen of the Southern Coast have been undergoing untold miseries in the high seas. Their arduous life is often threatened by the vagaries of nature. In addition the accusation of crossing the ‘never visible’ maritime boundary looms large on them, despite the fact that such boundary is nebulous and  will be continuously disturbed by the ever active sea waves. Weather could also play truant to drift them beyond the boundary even if they do not want to. The Indo-Sri Lankan relations is delicately balanced on these issues among other issues. Suggestions are being made that an equitable sharing of the marine wealth of the sea among the fishermen from both the countries coupled with suitable surveillance mechanism among both Countries could bring an everlasting solution to this vexed issue. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study and evaluate the nuances of this delicate issue.

Each village or town has its own unique strength, weakness and problems. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study and evaluate such issues if any that may crop up in the personal level interactions with the masses en route the Yatra.

The States of Tamilnadu and Kerala are rich in heritage and have a hoary past. The Sagar Putra Yatra will cover historic/ archeological / ancient sites on the route in an effort to understand and visualise the rich tradition and culture that the Chola, Pandia and Chera kingdoms had at one point of time. Study how sustainable tourism promotion can be done for additional income of the coastal communities.

Apart from natural calamities manmade disasters have put immense pressure on the costal environment and marine life. The Sagar Putra Yatra will study, create awareness among the local communities and make them participate in sustainable development and Swatch Bharat Abhyan to contribute and conserve our marine bio diversity and National security.
